“Unless It’s Kicks” by Okkervil River
Despite their lo-fi aesthetic, I’ve always been a fan of Okkervil River. And on a day like today their rawness helps speed the work. (via simple-x)

I’ve been using Google Chrome to make a few internet radio station “applications.” Each gets its own window (Chrome remembers dimensions and location yay!) and taskbar button. So far I am so in love with this web browser.
“The Submarines is composed of John Dragonetti, who previously preformed as Jack Drag, and Blake Hazard, great-granddaughter of F.Scott Fitzgerald. The romantically involved couple collaborated on Hazard’s 2002 album Little Airplane. Following their breakup, the album Declare a New State! was created in 2006, with many songs written separately while they were apart, as well as a new band. They are now married.”
In awe of The Beatles: Rock Band opening cinematic by the consistently out-of-this-world Passion Pictures.
This is amazing. Watch it in HD at the link above. Watch it now.
Interesting article (from the Wall Street Journal, of all places) on a novel form of music distribution chosen by one of Sufjan Steven’s fans.
-1 style points for inane use of the word “curate,” though. It’s quickly becoming the dumbest buzzword of the ’00s.
I am a colossal dork. Regardless, this song is awesome and the perfect thing for a Monday morning.
Grizzly Bear - Ready, Able
I don’t understand how someone can not like/appreciate this song. The last 2.5 minutes are sooo good.
I love Grizzly Bear. Now excuse me — I’m off to listen to this CD for the rest of the afternoon.
I want everyone on here to make a list of their top 15 (or so) favorite songs of all time, please? I want to fall in love with some new music!
Also making my list because who doesn’t like thinking about themselves?

Jenny Lewis has a new album! Totally missed this. “Big Wave,” from I’m Having Fun Now by Jenny and Johnny.
Jenny raised a whole generation of us freshly in the world people, I heard every worry of mine in her songs. If Jenny Lewis can get through growing up and find what seems to be peace, or at least, contentment, maybe all of us little Jennys can, too.
From the song:
I can’t sleep these days
And my blues, they won’t go away
So there are these little pills I been taking
And my doctor, she says that they’re safe
But I been sleepwalking down to the lake
And waking up in the water
At least now the speaker is talking to a therapist instead of taking her aggression out on others.
“It Won’t Be Long,” from Dear Companion by Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore
We’re not as old as we feel now
We’ve so much more to reveal now
Whether days are bright
Or sorrow filled
We’ll find our comfort in these hills
Sometimes I feel like my life is slipping me by, and when that feeling comes it helps to remember that we are never as old as we feel, and that so many wonderful things are out there in the woods just waiting to be discovered.
“We Used to Wait,” from The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Now it seems strange
How we used to wait for letters to arrive
But what’s stranger still
Is how something so small can keep you aliveWe used to wait
We used to waste hours just walking around
We used to wait
All those wasted lives in the wilderness downtown
